Fight Scene Foley Elements

In order to get high quality foley for the finished film opening, we decided to practise making up the elements of the punch and block sound effects, using the voice over feature in iMovie. When we make the actual foley for the fight scene, we will use high quality microphones but as this was just a practise to build up the layers, we just used the in-built microphone in the computer.

We incorporated two different layers to the punch sounds:
  • Slap (for skin-to-skin impacts)
  • Thud (for clothing impacts)

These are not all of the layers we will use for our final piece. In our final piece we will use a 'swish' sound of the fist moving through the air, as well as a slight cracking sound to add to the overall sound.

As these sounds were recorded with the in-built microphone in the computer, they are of a very low quality. To ensure our foley is as high quality as possible for the actual film opening, we will record with the RĂ˜DE VideoMic Pro (the same mic we will be capturing the rest of the sound with to aid continuity).

In the actual film, we will include the movement of the clothes as well as the actors' grunts to add realism.
