The equipment we used.
D3200-18-55mm lens
The main reason we decided to use this camera to shoot our film opening was because we could control the picture better through the manual setting. Using a DSLR meant we had the ability to swap lenses to give a better variety of shots. we would also be able to pull and set focus a lot better if we did it manually which would help us get the film look we were going for.
Sigma 70-300mm lens
We decided to use a telephoto lens for some of the shot for a couple of reasons. One reason was so we could get some nice close ups with out putting the camera right in the actors faces. The other reason we used this lens was due to the fact that one characteristic is that it compresses the image. It make it seem as if objects are closer then they are. This is good as it allows the actors to swing punches from a safe distance and them look a lot closer then they were.
RØDE VideoMic Pro
In order for us to capture great sounding audio we used the RODE VideoMic Pro. We used this to capture all onset dialogue and audio. In order for it to match we also recorded all foley using this microphone as well. Due to us using a Shotgun mic, wind was an issue. we used a dead cat/ windjammer on the Rode mic to help reduce the wind noise. In order to get good audio we had to get the microphone close to the actors. In order to do this we used a boom pole.
ZoomH1 recorder
As we wanted to keep the audio at a high quality we didn't want to plug the mic straight into the camera, which would reduce the quality. We decided to use the ZoomH1 handy recorder to capture audio. Doing this allowed one person to focus on all of the audio. They could monitor it and turn the input up or down to get good sounding audio which is well balanced and doesn't clip. Doing this helped us to save time in post-production.

Shoulder rig
In order to get the real world, gritty look we were looking for in our fight scene we originally decided to shoot it hand held. However, we decided that we didn't want to have footage that was too shaky so we decided to put the camera on a shoulder rig. Doing this allowed us to have stable shots when needed and also get that hand held gritty look we were going for. Using a rig meant we could use a follow focus. Doing this helped us to pull focus smoothly which gave us a nice filmic look.
Steadicam
We knew in order to tell the story properly, we wanted the audience to feel like they where moving up with the protagonist . In order to portray this in the right way we wanted the audience to feel like they were moving with him. We decided to use a Steadicam in order to get the look we were going for. Using a Steadicam meant we could get nice smooth movement shots which made the audience feel like they were floating through the scene.
